Is your website still caught in the 80’s? The importance of updating your website for ultimate performance.

Is your website is still rocking neon leg warmers and parachute pants? Perhaps it’s time to hold a mirror to your website and make it acknowledge that it’s 2019 and some things just don’t look cool anymore. Long gone are the days when it was sufficient to just have a website – users have evolved into savvy (and picky) website critics these days. With all the information available and so many brands and businesses competing for their attention, it’s imperative that you maintain and keep your website fresh and in line with recent design trends, technological advancements as well as search engine algorithms. You might be thinking, “I don’t have time for this! Besides, my content is still relevant and if users can just get past the outdated design, they will see my value! It’s good enough!”. Unfortunately, that way of thinking leaves you open to your competitors swooping in and taking a potential client away from your business.

Sadly, “old school is cool” does not apply when it comes to your website’s functionality. The internet and digital world is constantly changing and developing. Web standards and trends shift each year, dictating new tools and technologies for building a good website. Your potential clients’ preferences and tastes shift even faster (yes, they are that picky!). What was trendy yesterday, may not be tomorrow. If you want your business to succeed, you need to be agile with your approach and website.

So with that said, let’s review our top three reasons why updating your website helps you reach the next level of online performance:

1. Because perception is key.

Potential clients (and even existing clients) really do notice if your website is not up to snuff. They may not be professional website designers but they do frequent websites enough to understand what is and isn’t professional or current. Make them say “wow” when they land on your website! That way you’ll be well on your way to convincing them you’re the right choice.

2.Because you must understand the value of investing in yourself.

When you invest in your business, you invest in your future and the satisfaction of your clients. Not only does an amazing and smart website show the world you know what you’re doing (and doing it well!), it shows you understand the value of investing time into your own messaging, creative and user experience. When a potential client can tell you’ve invested time and money into providing them with the best possible experience, it builds brand trust and authority.

3. Because being online just isn’t enough anymore.

Just because you are online and your website can be visited, doesn’t mean it’s actually benefiting your business. Conversely, it could be hurting your image and pushing potential clients away by creating a perception that is far from the truth. A great website is a detailed and deeply considered undertaking – where content, audience, funnels, user experience, design and strategy all come together to produce the best possible results for your business.

Make no mistake – the point of this article was not to convince you to update your website simply for the sake of change. While a website redesign is an important and demanding process, which requires plenty of time and effort – think about the reason you got a website in the first place. It exists to promote your work, offer your services, help customers get to know you, as well as get them excited to work with you! So, ask yourself if your website is making a negative impression or lasting impression?

It’s time to love your website again.

Your website should work as hard as you do, no questions asked. If you’re ready to ramp things up and make a great impression, we recommend arming yourself with insight and considering a tail-made strategy that brings real results.
